silt fencing

ABOUT TURBIDITY BARRIERS

Turbidity barriers, similar to silt fence, are a flexible, impermeable barrier used to trap sediment within or along the shores of our streams, lakes, and oceans. The type of turbidity barrier used will either be classified as floating or staked depending on the water body characteristics.

BARRIERS

Staked Turbidity Barriers

Staked Turbidity Barriers are continuous panels of impervious vinyl-polyester fabric that can contain storm water runoff or re-direct it to proper channels or retention areas. Staked barriers can be installed similarly to silt fence or in up to 18” of water.

Floating Turbidity Barriers

Floating Turbidity barriers consist of a top flotation boom, an impervious fabric curtain extending downward under water, and a heavy galvanized steel chain sealed into a hem along the entire bottom of the curtain to provide ballast to keep the curtain vertical in the water. Once anchored at a fixed location, floating turbidity barriers can be laid out to contain your entire site preventing any disturbed sediment from harming the surrounding environment.

G & J Site Solutions carry several turbidity barriers in stock, please feel free to call us to rent or have some installed for your next marine or shoreline project.
